Travelling with an Electric Bike
Electric Bikes are a great way to explore a new destination. They allow you to cover more ground than a regular bike, and the electric assistance makes it easier to tackle hills. However, there are several things to remember when travelling with an e-bike.
Planning Your Trip
The first thing to consider is how you will get your e-bike to your destination. Airlines typically don't allow e-bikes with large batteries on board, so you must either ship your bike or rent one at your destination. If you are renting, book in advance, especially in peak season.
When planning your route, keep in mind the range of your e-bike battery. Most e-bikes can travel between 30 and 100 miles on a single charge, but this can vary depending on the terrain, wind speed and how much you use the motor. Be sure to factor in charging stops when mapping out your route.
Packing for Your Trip
In addition to the usual cycling gear, you will also want to pack a charger for your e-bike battery. You might want to bring a spare battery, especially if you are planning on doing long rides.
Things to Consider
- Battery Range. As mentioned earlier, consider the range of your e-bike battery when planning your trip. You don't want to be stranded with a dead battery in the middle of nowhere.
- Terrian. E-bikes are great for hills, but they can be a bit challenging on rough terrain. If you plan off-road riding, choose an e-bike designed for it.
- Laws and Regulations. E-bike laws and regulations can vary from place to place. Be sure to research the rules in the area you will be riding in before you go.
Benefits of Travelling by E-bike
- See more. With an e-bike, you can cover more ground than on a regular bike. This means you can see more of your destination and explore places that would be difficult to reach by car.
- Easier on the Body. The electric assist on an e-bike makes riding more accessible, even for people out of shape. This means you can enjoy longer rides without getting too tired.
- Eco-Freindly. E-bikes are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint whilst travelling.
