Cycling Travel Insurance FAQs
1. Why do I need specific cycling travel insurance?
Although leisure cycling doesn't seem very hazardous, remember that you do not always cause accidents; other riders, including the public or vehicles on the road, can push them.
You should have a specialist cycling travel insurance policy that includes Emergency Medical Expenses in the event of an accident, Activity Equipment if your bike is accidentally damaged or stolen in transit and more.
2. What happens if I fall off my bike when Cycling abroad and get injured? How am I covered?
This Cycling policy covers Emergency Medical and Repatriation back to the UK up to £5m in case of an accident or injury while Cycling, stationary or just travelling.
All policies come with a 24/7 Emergency assistance line.
3. Cycling is the sole purpose of my trip; am I covered?
Yes, all of our policies cover Cycling as the sole purpose of your trip, and the number of days you can cycle is not limited.
4. Is there any cover if my bike is stolen?
Our policies include theft coverage whilst in transit or locked storage.
Owned Activity Equipment covers up to £1,500 (single article/pair/set limit: £750) or Hired Activity Equipment covers up to £750 (single article/pair/set limit £500)
Please Note: This is based on a wear, tear and deprecation deduction; find out more about it in the Policy Wording.
5. If my baBaggagend valuables are stolen from my bike panniers, am I covered under Personal Baggage?
Your baggage will be covered for theft, loss or damage if the bike panniers are closed and secure with a lock.
Your bike and panniers must always be within eye contact, and you must ensure they are securely locked wherever you leave your bike.
6. What protective gear do I need to be wearing so that the Cycling Travel Insurance remains valid?
You must wear a Cycle Helmet at all times for the policy to be valid
Footwear is essential; wear appropriate footwear like a cycle or sturdy shoes.
You should always wear the proper clothing. For example, if you are Cycling at altitude, you should have warm clothes available, or in hot conditions, you should have reduced layers but take them with you just in case the weather changes.
7. If I am Cycling at altitude, can I get cover?
Yes, we provide coverage if you are cycling at altitude, for example, in the mountains or other areas above sea level, such as Nepal or India; our provider, Adventures, under Cycle Touring Policy, would cover this.
8. I cycle abroad a lot; is it worth me getting an Annual Cycling Policy?
Getting an Annual Multi-Trip policy may be a good idea if you travel twice yearly and seek cycle holiday insurance.
Our policies offer unlimited cycle days up to 31 days per trip.
For cycling holidays, we often cover people travelling to Europe, such as France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Holland and more.
9. I have some pre-existing medical conditions that I need to declare. Can I still get cycling cover?
We cover many people with pre-existing medical conditions who are going on cycle leisure holidays.
This activity is covered automatically under Hazardous Activity Pack A.
10. If I travel for an extended period or explore the world for a year, can I get a Travel Insurance policy for the trip?
Our backpacker policy covers cycling and cycling tours as an activity while you are travelling. This policy can last up to 18 months, and you can extend it anytime.
