Travelling is a significant part of life for a professional athlete in many sports. Here is a breakdown of the challenges and how athletes cope.

Challenges

Disrupted sleep. Jet lag can throw off an athlete's sleep schedule, especially with time zone changes, leading to fatigue and decreased performance. Eastward travel is generally more challenging than westward.
Less training time. Travel days are cut into training routines, making it harder to maintain fitness.
Unfamiliar environment. Playing in a new stadium or arena with different crowds and conditions can be mentally and physically challenging.

How athletes cope

Team support. Professional teams often have staff specialising in travel logistics, booking flights and accommodation to minimise travel time. They may also have chefs who ensure players have access to healthy food.
Travel routines. Many athletes develop routines to help them cope with jet lag, such as adjusting their sleep schedule before departure and using light therapy.
