Family Travel Insurance FAQs?
1. How does the medical cover work on this family travel insurance policy?
In the case of a Medical Emergency, you would need to call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance line. From here, they will arrange medical care on your behalf and transfer you to the local Medical Facility. Once at the Medical Facility, you will receive medical treatment under Emergency Medical and Repatriation back to the UK for up to £5m.
2. Am I covered if we cancel a trip because one of my family members is sick or injured?
Yes, our JS Gold policy covers Cancellation up to £3,000 or Platinum up to £7,500 per person if you have to cancel the trip due to one of your family members falling sick, getting injured or getting a positive COVID-19 test within 14 days of departure.
This is covered for any pre-paid flights and accommodation.
Please Note: This is not covered for Airline Cancellations. You must contact the airline for a refund or reschedule your flights.
3. If a member of my Family loses their passport, is there any cover?
We offer coverage for losing a Passport on our Gold and Platinum Schemes, £300 on Gold and £500 on Platinum.
4. Does this family policy include baggage cover?
Our three travel insurance schemes offer baggage cover for Accidental Damage, Loss or theft in transit or locked storage.
Cover per person:
- Silver: £500
- Gold: £2,500
- Platinum: £3,500
Please Note: This is subject to single-article limits; check the terms, conditions, and benefits in the Policy Wording.
5. Is the schedule of benefits amount for the whole Family or per person?
All travel insurance benefits on our policies are for everyone, not the whole Family.
For example, the policy would cover Emergency Medical Expenses and Repatriation up to £5m per person.
6. What's the maximum amount of days my Family can travel for on a single trip policy?
Our Single-Trip Travel Insurance policies offer up to 180 days of travel. For the policy to be valid, you must depart and return to the UK and have a pre-booked trip in place.
7. When would it make sense to get an Annual family policy?
If any family member travels more than twice a year, it makes sense to get an Annual Multi-Trip Policy; this often works out a much lower premium than taking out a single-trip policy every time you travel.
8. Can everyone on an annual family policy travel separately?
All travellers can travel separately; parents can travel without their children.
Children can also travel without their parents; however, if they do, they must travel with another insured adult; that insured adult doesn't have to be with JS Travel Insurance.
Annual Travel Insurance Policy – Top 10 types
9. What is the maximum number of travellers allowed per family policy?
A family policy consists of 2 adults and children.
We can also cover single-parent families, such as adults and children.
10. What is the maximum age for a child to obtain a family policy?
When taking out the approach, a family policy is for two adults and children under 18.
If you have children over 18, you could add them to your policy or set it to individuals, meaning it would no longer be a family policy.
11. Do any sports or activities follow the standard of this policy?
Yes, all of our policies offer some recreational sports and activities at no extra premium, for example:
If you plan on doing any Wintersports or any other hazardous Sports or Activities, you must add these individually to the quote; there may be additional premiums for those you select. We can cover over 400+ Activities on a sole-purpose-of-trip basis.
12. A few family members have Pre-Existing Medical Conditions; can we obtain cover for this?
Yes, we can cover a wide range of pre-existing medical conditions; for family members who have medical conditions, you can Get A Quote on a single or Annual multi-trip basis.
Who is a Family Travel Insurance policy for?
As the name implies, Family Travel Insurance suits a Family travelling together.
The group usually consists of at least one adult and children (up to 17). There is no restriction on how many children can be covered, so if you are a large Family of eight, we can still provide coverage.
Also, you should check what Sports and Activities are covered as standard and those that should be added to the quote.
So, for example, if you plan to go scuba diving or skiing on your holiday, you must ensure these are listed in your policy.
We can cover a Family Travel Insurance policy for Grandparents, Grandchildren, and Foster or Adopted Children. Unfortunately, we cannot give Nephews or Nieces on a Family policy.
Travelling with Children
- Get the kids to help with the packing and let them be involved in what they take with them. This will get easier as they get older and have their luggage.
- If it is a long-haul flight or car journey, ensure you have their favourite things at hand, such as iPads and Phones, and their toys for more minor children.
- Pack some favourite food, as children can get hungry at any point in the journey.
Additional Tips for Travelling as a Family
- When travelling with children, things don't always go according to plan. Be prepared to be flexible and go with the flow.
- The more you pack, the more you have to lug around. Pack only what you need, and consider doing laundry on your trip.
- Let the children help decide the destination and activities. This will excite them and make them feel they have contributed to the trip.
- Schedule plenty of breaks throughout the day.
- Take lots of photos and videos to capture the Family's memories.
Family Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
We can provide a policy if you or a family member have pre-existing medical conditions.
