Before You Go
- Get your doctor's advice on managing your symptoms while travelling, and make sure you have enough medication to last the entire trip. You might need a doctor's note if you need to visit the restroom frequently.
- Choose your destination carefully. If you know what triggers your Cystitis, avoid places that trigger your condition. For example, if you are sensitive to certain foods, avoiding countries where these foods are common is best.
- Pack comfortable clothing that won't irritate your bladder.
- If you are travelling by car, ensure you know where all the rest stops are. If you are flying, book an aisle seat close to the restrooms.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out your bladder and prevent infection. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic drinks, which can irritate your bladder.
Whilst Abroad
- Listen to your body. Don't push yourself. If you need a break, take one.
- Use the restrooms frequently. Don't wait until you are desperate to go.
- Choose your destination carefully. If you know what triggers your Cystitis, avoid places that trigger your condition. For example, if you are sensitive to certain foods, avoiding countries where these foods are common is best.
- Be prepared for delays. If you are travelling by plane or train, delays could make it difficult to find a restroom. Pack some emergency supplies.
- Relax and destress. Stress can make your cystitis symptoms worse. Listen to music, read a book or take a hot bath.
With some planning, you can enjoy a relaxing trip even if you have Cystitis. The most important thing is to listen to your body.
